Recruitment FAQ
What is Formal Recruitment?
Formal Recruitment is a period for all women who are interested in joining one of the 7 sororities in the Georgia Tech Greek system. This year, Formal Recruitment is from August 20th to August 24th.
How can I become an Alpha Chi?
Sign up for formal recruitment through the GT Panhellenic Website. Through the recruitment process, you will be able to meet members of each of the sororities on campus and find a house that is right for you.
If I have a relative who is/was an Alpha Chi, how can she send a recommendation letter?
We welcome recommendation letters for all prospective members. Please see the left side of this page for information regarding where to send recommendation letters.
Are sisters required to live in the Alpha Chi house?
Sisters are not required to live in the Alpha Chi house; however, many sisters find that it is much more convenient and "homey" than GT campus housing. The house holds 34 girls and each sister has the option of living in the house. Additionally, all sisters are welcome to come by the house to hang out, eat, bake, study, etc. at any time.
Does Alpha Chi Omega haze their new members?
Absolutely not. We do not believe that anything constructive results from that sort of behavior. There is no hazing of any kind and in fact, your new member period will be filled with fun sisterhood events to get to know your pledge class as well as the rest of the chapter. You will also most likely be showered with presents by various sisters during the process of being paired with a Big Sister.
What do dues go toward?
Dues are paid each semester and go toward house maintenence, national fees, and the AXO meal plan. For more information about dues, click here.
Is financial assistance available?
Absolutely. A sister may set up a payment plan with our VP Finance, and there are scholarships available from AXO Nationals. As Alpha Chi's, financial responsibility is very important to us. We will work with you to find the best options for your financial situation.
Who can I contact if I have more questions?
In the period before and during Formal Recruitment, we cannot speak with you directly regarding membership questions unless it is during one of the designated Recruitment events. However, our fantastic Panhellenic Committee is happy to help answer any other questions you may have about sororities. If you have any questions specific to Alpha Chi, make sure you have them ready to ask during the Recruitment events. Any sister will be happy to help you then!
What will my first semester be like if I join Alpha Chi?
The best parts about being an Alpha Chi are probably the least glamorous. Eating meals at the house together, watching movies in the Media Room, and even catching some sun out on the porch don’t sound like much, but each is a great way to hang out and have fun. Conveniently located on campus, the Alpha Chi house is a great place to stop during a break in classes and relax when all the work’s done for the day. It’s also great place to meet other sisters for study sessions, and there’s always someone to walk up Freshmen Hill with. In addition to having a great support network during your transition to college life, here are some of the main events you can expect as a new member of Alpha Chi:
Bid Day
After picking up their bids, the newest members of Alpha Chi Omegas will head to the house where the older sisters will be eagerly waiting to celebrate their arrival! It is undoubtedly one of the most fun days of the semester for both the new members as well as the older sisters.
New Member Period
This refers to the time between receiving bids and initiation. It is a time to become an active part of the sorority, which includes getting a Big Sister and participating in all social functions, chapter meetings and pre-initiation ceremonies.
Revelation Week
During Revelation Week, New Members will be matched with an older sister to act as her mentor and guide throughout her time in Alpha Chi Omega. Each day of Revelation Week, big sisters make gifts for their littles with clues about who they are. It's one of the best parts of the New Member period.
Initiation
Initiation typically takes place in mid-October or November, and is the time when New Members become lifetime members of Alpha Chi Omega.
